Where there is a talk about linux there are people like me...~Kumar Chetan
MS XP is available for 6500 Rs.
The only issue with Linux is that its known to be A Geek Stuff only. If your mom and dad can use it for playing MP3s and checking mails then anybody can use it. Unfortunately we, the geek community, take pride in making Linux look more complex than windoiws and whenever we speak to about linux we talk about security and stability. Mind it Windows 98SE was a crap OS but it was just easy to use thats why it gained the market. Tell people Linux is easy to use. Safety and stability are bonus points.
IMO, just using a software that is free or open source makes no point. I am ready to pay for good quality software. There is no match for Oracle and if you want to use it, you will have to pay for it.

For people who don’t want to master it, yet are tired of Windows’ BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) and constant problems - you can try Xandros or Linspire - two Linux distros that actually feel like Windows. Once you use Linux, you won’t need the feel to use Windows - cause it sucks! Earlier I used to dual boot (means I had two Operating Systems on my PC. Windows and Linux. I could use any. Linux configures this for you automatically), now I completely use Ubuntu and I swear by it.

I disagree with BSOD and constant problem, actually that's depend on the users itself and of course their hardware play the main part too. Because most BSOD caused by users who dont understand what they're doing (except when exploit involved) and their faulty hardware.

As for trashing windows completely, i dont think that'll be possible because :

1. Most users who want to play mp3 files have to deal with numerous action like installing codec, downloading software, etc because most linux distros doesnt support mp3 directly because of it's license except for ogg but not every users understand about ogg / vorbis .. ubuntu which is a user friendly distro is an example ..

2. The not tech savvy users never use a Command Prompt to do a smalltask to see their ipaddress even in windows although most of windows configuration can be configured directly using a GUI .. but in linux you'll need to use a shell to do a small task or an advanced task

3. Driver for linux, okay ... i assume you're using Ubuntu because you said so in your post. But did you know that by default Ubuntu doesnt use the 3D Accelerated Driver? unless the users mess around with the system itself. Well if that's the case, Windows can do that do because you can still see the desktop but when you're going to play 3D games you're experiencing very low framerate.

4. The most important thing which most users choose windows is ... because they can play games easily without having to mess around with Cedega, Wine, etc .. but if you choose to use a virtual OS, then there's no point to have linux because you can install linux in your Windows box by using virtual os software

and many more ... but i think that's already enough :)
