Aishwarya Rai as Umrao Jaan movie trailersIt seems like an year of remakes and sequels. One after the other Bollywood is simply following the chase for a could-be blockbuster by cashing in on the old-is-gold mantra. While Lage Raho Munnabhai is rocking the nation some sequels didn’t really work out for the director’s cup of coffee.

No matter. If a sqeuel sounds risky Bollywood has it’s way with remakes. Farhan Akhtar is tight lipped about his latest flick Don which is a remake of the old classic. We’ll get more on that soon! Adding fire to the belly is the latest to hit the national televisions with a slick promo is J.P Dutta’s latest Umrao Jaan. Aishwarya stars as Umrao Jaan and along with her is the dashing Abhishek Bachan. The film is a remake of the old classic with the same title. Umrao Jaan earlier starred Rekha in the lead role. The trailers have hit the idiot boxes and the viewers are already excited. Everybody’s eyeing the music of the film which should release soon anytime now!

The movie poster. Looks slick. What do you day?!

Aishwarya Rai in Umrao Jaan dancing

Aishwarya seems to have lost a few years of age there. Looking young and vibrant. Or is it just the make up?

Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachan in Umrao Jaan

Abhishek Bachan and Aishwarya Rai together in a scene from the movie. They look cute together. Don’t they? Nah! Rani is a better match!

There’s nothing much about the story as of now. You can view the trailer/promo here. I’ll keep you posted on the music soon.

This is undoubtely one of those movies which is most awaited, especially in the remake series.

The most amazing fact about this movie is that its an women dominated flick, content is women centric, most of tech staff , supporting directors were women, and the movie costumes too are now auctioned to help girl children.

Movie has many extraordinary qualities and many flaws. The biggest flaw is shallow acting pool JP has to pick from as these idiots cannot deliver dialogs in Hindi, let alone in urdu. The sets are equisite and music is extraordinary. The lyrics do not reach the heights they could, ala Javed Akhtar. Alka’s delivery of the lyrics suffers from her limited range in voice and vocab. Overall, worth having in the library.
