If Jal didn't quench your thirst make way for Raeth. Raeth offers a unique mix of the eastern and western sounds. Their brand new album recently launched is already a hot seller in India. Raeth offers a trademark Pakistani rock band quality with meaningful lyrics and a crisp music composition. It's high time you took out those Jal CDs from your players, make way for Raeth. They rock! No not just because they're cute, they can really rock!

The album comprises of ten track including a remix. Raeth is a three member music band with one session musician. That unique blend of guitars and the drums added with amazing lyrics makes me wanna jump! The title track Bhulado is already hitting the national television with a cool video. The song is a chart buster already and the band is all set to come out with a brand new video for another track pretty soon!

The song is a chart buster already and the band is all set to come out with a brand new video for another track pretty soon!

Tracklist:

1. Bhulado
2. Tumhare Liye (Bheege Se Gesu Hain Tere)
3. Door Jag Ka Taara
4. Ab Kyon
5. Aansoo
6. Bhulado (Acoustic)
7. Rangon Ko
8. Akela Hoon Mein
9. Raat Aur Chandni
10. Bhulado (Club Mix)

Bhulado is already a chart topper and chances are that you’ve already hummed along with the video promos of the song on national television, if you’re an Earthling of course. Tumhare Liye is again a favourite number. Jam packed with amazing lyrics almost all the songs would take your breath away! Rangon Ko and Akela Hoon Mein would make you hit the repeat button again and again. Though you could skip the club remix of Bhulado, the rest of the album is worth keeping safe in your lockers.

My word. Go buy this. Now!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Coffee was the only thing common left amongst them. Two years had seen them in the best of laughter, fun, stupid fights, adventurous sneak outs, passionate moments and an awful long list of things people get to do in love today. Two years is a long time. Two years make a hell of a difference. For them it was both the best and the worst part of their life.

"I can't take you anymore and moreover it's not working out so let's just quit!", she said. He looked at her with his eyes almost week with tears. One could easily make out that he was the one eager to carry on with their relationship as the tears in his eyes waited momentarily as if just waiting for one single command from their master. "And I thought everything was fine, everything is great", he said. His voice had come down as if it had been thrown down from a high cliff. For him these two years had been the best. He loved her for each and every moment. He pampered her with all that he could afford. He bent down on his knees every time to make up for his mistakes even when it was his fault at all. She took out her cell phone and started punching the keys. He looked at her in despair. He never felt so helpless in his entire life. Everything he thought of had died off during a cup of coffee. Probably the last cup of coffee he had with her. “Tell me what’s the real thing and let me have some peace too, will you?”, he said. His voice suddenly gained some amplitude. She looked up at him, half surprised. She shook her head. He requested her again. “Okay Okay! There’s this guy….”, she said in a soft tone. “So it’s someone else now! You are leaving me for someone else? Bullshit!”, he said in the loudest voice. “Calm down ass. Calm down. I’m not leaving you, we’ll be friends. You’re just not my type”, she said.

His blood gushed through his veins as if Shumi drove through blood. Throughout the past two years he had always been the best a man could be and yet the love of his life had other plans. He shook his head down. The next two minutes were the most silent in his life. He couldn’t hear the jukebox sing Himesh’s remix number, he couldn’t hear others laugh their way, he couldn’t hear her say the final goodbye. Tears rolled down his cheeks in infinity. He suddenly opened his eyes, got up and rushed towards her car. She had just gotten into her car. “I love you Neetu, I love you, I will always love you!”, he said with tears still flowing from his eyes. She opened the car’s door and he stood besides her while kneeling down. He could hear some noise in the back seat. Suddenly four of her friends jumped up shouting, ” Bakra! Bakra!”.

Your ears have been used to the word ’Dengue’ for quite some time now. It’s usually been the mosquito repellent promos so far. Suddenly the word has become so common these days. You hear more of dengue than goofy politicians or Sourav Ganguly’s inability to make it to the cricket team. Dengue is official now. People are falling sick to the disease. The numbers are increasing day by day and it’s scary. You’re probably thinking how big a damage can a small mosquito do. Think again. It’s as scary as your ex boyfriend or girlfriend but it’s true. Let’s spread some facts.

According to WHO (That’s not who the heck that’s World Health Organization);

Dengue is an acute fever caused by a virus. It occurs in two forms:

1. Dengue Fever

2. Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever

Dengue fever is marked by the onset of sudden high fever, severe headache and pain behind the eyes, muscles and joints.

Dengue Haemorrhagic fever (DHF) is a more severe form, in which bleeding and sometimes shock occurs – leading to death. It is most serious in children. Symptoms of bleeding usually occur after 3-5 days of fever.

The high fever continues for five to six days (103 – 105 OF or 39- 40 OC). It comes down on the third or the fourth day but rises again. The patient feels much discomfort and is very weak after the illness.

Dengue spreads rapidly and may affect large number of people during an epidemic resulting in reduced work productivity, but most importantly causing the loss of lives.

Dengue spreads rapidly and may affect large number of people during an epidemic resulting in reduced work productivity, but most importantly causing the loss of lives.

RECOGNITION OF DENGUE FEVER

Sudden onset of high fever

Severe headache (mostly in the forehead)

Pain behind the eyes which worsens with eye movement

Body aches and joint pains

Nausea or vomiting

RECOGNITION OF DENGUE HAEMORRHAGIC FEVER AND SHOCK

Symptoms similar to dengue fever plus, any one of the following:

(1) Severe and continuous pain in abdomen;

(2) Bleeding from the nose, mouth and gums or skin bruising;

(3) Frequent vomiting with or without blood;

(4) Black stools, like coal tar;

(5) Excessive thirst (dry mouth)

(6) Pale, cold skin

(7) Restlessness, or sleepiness

TREATMENT

There is no specific medicine for the treatment of the disease. However proper and early treatment can relieve the symptoms and prevent complications and death. Aspirin and Brufen should be avoided in dengue fever, as it is known to increase the bleeding tendency and also it increases the stomach pain. Paracetamol can be given on medical advice. If one or more signs of Dengue Haemorrhagic fever are seen, take the patient to the hospital immediately. Give fluids to drink while transferring the patient to the hospital.

BASIC FACTS ON DENGUE

(a) How dengue spreads?

Dengue is spread by the bite of an infected mosquito Aedes aegypti. The mosquito gets the virus by biting the infected persons. The first symptoms of the disease occur about 5-7 days after an infected bite.

There is no way to tell if a mosquito is carrying the dengue virus. Therefore, people must protect themselves from all mosquito bites.

(b) Where does the mosquito live?

The mosquito rests indoors, in closets and other dark places. Outside, they rest where it is cool and shaded. The female mosquito lays her eggs in water containers in and around homes, schools and other areas in towns or villages. These eggs become adult in about 10 days.

(c) Where does the mosquito breed?

Dengue mosquitoes breed in stored exposed water collections. Favoured breeding places are:

Barrels, drums, jars, pots, buckets, flower vases, plant saucers, tanks, discarded bottles, tins, tyres, water cooler, etc. and a lot more places where rain-water collects or is stored.

PREVENTION OF DENGUE

All efforts of control should be directed against the mosquitoes. It is important to take control measures to eliminate the mosquitoes and their breeding places. However, the efforts should be intensified before the transmission season (during and after the rainy season) and at the time of the epidemic.

PREVENT MOSQUITO BITES:

Dengue mosquitoes bite during the daytime. Protect yourself from the bite.\

(1) Wear full sleeve clothes and long dresses to cover the limbs;

(2) Repellent – care should be taken in using repellents on small children and the elderly;

(3) Use mosquito coils and electric vapour mats during the daytime to prevent Dengue;

(4) Use mosquito nets – to protect babies, old people and others, who may rest during the day. The effectiveness of such nets can be improved by treating them with permethrin (pyrethroid insecticide). Curtains (cloth or bamboo) can also be treated with insecticide and hung at windows or doorways, to repel or kill mosquitoes.

(5) Protection of people sick with dengue – Mosquitoes become infected when they bite people who are sick with dengue. Mosquito nets and mosquito nets and mosquito coils will effectively prevent mosquitoes from biting sick people and help stop the spread of dengue

PREVENTION MULTIPLICATION OF MOSQUITOES:

Mosquitoes which spread dengue live and breed in and around houses.

Drain water from coolers, tanks, barrels, drums and buckets, etc.;

There should be no water in coolers when not in use;

Remove from the house all objects, e.g. plant saucers, etc. which have water collected in them;

Remove water from refrigerator drip pans every other day;

All stored water containers should be kept covered all the time;

Discard solid waste and objects where water collects, e.g. bottles, tins, tyres, etc.

ALWAYS REMEMBER

Dengue is a serious viral disease transmitted by the bite of the mosquito;

Dengue infection occurs in two forms: Dengue fever and Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever;

Dengue fever is a severe flu like illness that affects older children and adults but rarely causes death;

Dengue haemorrhagic fever (DHF) is a more severe form, in which bleeding and occasionally shock occur, leading to death, mostly in children;

Persons suspected of having dengue fever or DHF must see a doctor at once. Dengue haemorrhagic fever is a deadly disease and early recognition and treatment can save lives. Unless proper treatment is given promptly, the patient may go into shock and die.

Severe abdominal pains (black stools), bleeding on the skin or from the nose or gums, sweating, cold skin are danger signs. If any one of them is noticed take the patient to a hospital immediately. Give fluids to drink during transfer to the hospital.

So there you go, don’t say I didn’t tell ya! Know and let others know (Not the Lost Others). Anyways stay tuned for some more crap!

It's not everyday that you rush to your nearest music store and ask for a CD with some amount of desperation. When names like JP Dutta, Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bachchan, Shabana Azmi and Suneil Shetty appear in one go it's breathtaking for me at least. Abhishek looks stunning in the ongoing promos and Aishwarya seems a doll. An old worn-out doll. A doll with a lot of make-up. Enough! So it's Umrao Jaan again. Not that I've seen the previous version but I have some hopes on this one. Two things. JP Dutta's movies are definately worth a watch and the main glitter Abhishek Bachchan. Probably the only reason for me to watch the movie!

Coming back to the music scene. Anu Malik somehow manages to create some music with a little bit of noise. Well it's music by the second and third time you hear it. It somehow gives you a total feeling of sitting in some mehfil and youcan smell that flavour of yesteryears. With everyone trying hard to stick their noses into making remakes it seems to have become a viral in Bollywood. With Don already lined up for Diwali, Umrao Jaan might add to your popcorn moolah.

Track listing

1. Ek Tute Hue Dil Ki - Alka Yagnik
2. A Foreword - Javed Akhtar
3. Salaam - Alka Yagnik
4. Pehle Pehel - Alka Yagnik
5. Behka Diya Humein - Sonu Nigam & Alka Yagnik
6. Jhoote Ilzaam - Alka Yagnik
7. Main Na Mil Sakoon Jo Tumse - Alka Yagnik
8. Pooch Rahe Hain - Alka Jagnik
9. Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya - Richa Sharma
10. Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya - Anmol Mallik

At first it seems Anu Malik composed for an Alka Yagnik album. With almost all the tracks featuring Alka herself it’s more of her own personal album. The soundtrack starts with a small Ek Tute Hue Dil Ki which is a fair attempt to create a soft feeling. Javed Akhtar pumps in a line that’s more like an intro to Umrao Jaan. Salaam is the song currently featuring on national television. The video seems to work for me and the song is a classic attempt at recreating the old Umrao Jaan appeal. It works but only to a small extent. Pehle Pehel come in and you’re already in some mehfil sipping booze and enjoying the mujra! Aishwarya aunty would have gone through a tough time working on so many songs. I hope there’s more of the movie than the stupid soundtrack. Behka Diya Humein is sung beautifully. Sonu Nigam is ever fresh and Alka Yagnik is the usual. I’m waiting desperately to see Abhishek feature this one on video. The next two tracks would make you eject the CD from the CD player and break into a billion parts. But then you’re reminded of the money you spent on the damn thing so you keep it back inside. The music isn’t all noise but we’re the rock following youth who’re pissed off with a torture like this. The last track Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya by Anmol Malik is a must hear. Sweet voice and a sweet song as well.

On the whole a fair attempt. It’ll appeal to all those who love soft music. May be if you listen to music sitting in a lonely dark place sipping booze, you’ll like it.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

So when college decided to set us free we didn’t look behind. We decided to elope. Only this time we had ourselves to run away with. Off we go and after a few calls and a jerky ride on a Punjab Roadways bus we finally landed on our destination. Woh Lamhe was the obvious choice but theatre schedules made it forbidden. Left with not much of a choice we decided to play with Khosla KA Ghosla. I expected the movie to be a normal attempt at comedy but it surely proved me wrong. It’s way too much better than just that!

From start till the end the movie doesn’t let you get up for a bag of popcorns. That’s one reason why I remained hungry for the whole time! The story has been well set with a realistic touch on each and every details. Anupam Kher plays Mr. KK Khosla who finds himself on the verge of losing his newly bought plot in Delhi. The police is helpless, the laywers are discouraging and so is the property dealer who sold off the plot to him. Boman Irani is amazing again though I felt he wasn’t used to the full potential. Vinay continues to inspire with his ability to deliver humor the way it’s supposed to be. He was awesome in Pyaar Ke Side Effects (a must watch!) and he’s brilliant here too! The rest of the cast is good enough. Tara Sharma is plain noise.

The best part of watching movie with your friends (read just guys) is that you don’t need to worry about anything and you can just enjoy your movie. You can enjoy sitting in the front row (I was in the second!), laugh out loud, talk on the cell phone, make your legs comfortable, yawn and munch a packet of chips. Today was the first time I saw a few couples sitting on the cheaper seats in the front rows. Now that’s something new to me! Anyways come back to the movie and it’s a total timepass. Watch it with your friends, watch it in the front row, shout (no i don’t do that), whistle (i’m a good chap) and yawn (I don’t do that either!).

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Just what is an OS? You might be using Windows 98, Windows 2000 or Windows XP. But how do we exactly define an OS?

An Operating System (OS) is the most important program that runs on a computer. Every general-purpose computer must have an operating system to run other programs. Operating systems perform basic tasks, such as recognizing input from the keyboard, sending output to the display screen, keeping track of files and directories on the disk, and controlling peripheral devices such as disk drives and printers.

Linux is an operating system, just like Microsoft Windows - but Linux is free (explained later), very stable and ultra powerful - Google uses a Linux farm (a large network of computers) to perform its search operations, NASA uses it for flight simulations and it was used on the Space Shuttle Columbia. Now you can imagine what we are talking about.

Microsoft Windows is without doubt the most common and the standard OS in use today - simply because its easy to use. And of course, Windows does enjoy a simple click-and-run reputation. But there are certain things that make Windows look obsolete - viruses, system crashes, spyware, not having the ability to modify the system and of course the price.

In India, we are used to using the pirated version of Windows, this is not so the case in other countries - where software has to be purchased. Microsoft Windows XP Professional with SP2 retails for $280 on Amazon.com - this comes to near about 12, 000 Indian Rupees. Which of course is the cost of a new PC itself.

Of course you can continue using a pirated copy - no one can take legal action against an individual in India (as of now) - but the problems are manifold. Firstly, you are doing something illegal. Secondly, now you can’t update your Windows if the copy is pirated (and Windows is full of exploits. There are more problems in Windows than the OS itself. You need to update your Windows almost every week), you can’t download quality software (Internet Explorer 7, Windows Media Player 11 - which really rocks). And starting the next version of Windows - Microsoft Windows Vista, an enhanced copy protection feature will be added which will make piracy even more difficult. So the problems are endless.

That is where Linux comes in. Linux is a completely free OS. Free refers to two things -

1. The freedom of code - That means you can modify the OS to your needs! You can view the entire kernel (the kernel is the core of the OS), change it and recompile it. This means if you can code, you can modify the OS exactly the way you want it to work.

2. Price - Linux is free. You don’t need to pay even a single penny. That is the power of free software. Everything comes inbuilt - as in the case of Windows, you need to pay an equivalent amount of money to get Microsoft Office or other software - Linux has everything pre-installed.

Linux comes in various ‘distros’ or ‘distributions’. This means that the flavours are different, the core is the same. The distros may differ in look and usability - but all are powered by the very stable Linux kernel.

Few popular distros include - Ubuntu (shipped free of charge), Mandrake, Red Hat, Debian, SuSE, Knoppix etc. There is even a ‘Puppy Linux’, a Linux distro that can fit on your 128 MB pen drive.

So why to use Linux? Cause its free. You don’t need anti-virus software, anti-spywares or firewalls (built in). You no longer need to worry about security or keyloggers - Linux is ultra secure. For programmers, the powerful gcc compiler is included - Linux has support for possibly every programming language. As in the case of Windows, you end up paying a lot more for other programs, this is not the case of Linux - you get to choose from a variety of free softwares - many of which are powerful than even their paid rivals. The support for Linux is extensive - there are various websites, forums and IRC channels to get you started. And Linux actually looks good!

With Windows, you spend a lot of time installing system drivers - I actually spent an hour installing the software for my HP1400 printer on Windows - on my Ubuntu Linux (a Linux distro), it a two click - ten seconds install. Knoppix (a Live CD. A Linux distro that runs from the CD itself without installing it!) detected all my hardware in two minutes, whereas Windows takes a hell lot of time and wants drivers for everything. And there are a lot of people who don’t have the motherboard driver CDs, you mess up Windows - you lose the graphics and audio - if you don’t have the CD, you are done for!

If you have multiple computers and you use Windows - you need to buy multiple licenses. With Linux - this is not so. You may use any number of computers, Linux is free.

For all the good things it has, why is Linux not so popular? Cause its difficult if you are migrating from Windows. Windows users are accustomed to click-and-run. This is not the case with Linux, though more and more distros are moving towards this. However, you need to have basic information about your PC - such as what filesystems are, what partitions are before you can actually install Linux. Even if you get it installed from some professional, you have to actually learn to use Linux. Now more and more distros are beginning to look like Windows - but you still need to have some knowledge of stuff like bash and of course get ready to type - if you want your Linux to rock, you need to use the terminal - which is a MSDOS based software but a lot lot powerful.

For people who don’t want to master it, yet are tired of Windows’ BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) and constant problems - you can try Xandros or Linspire - two Linux distros that actually feel like Windows. Once you use Linux, you won’t need the feel to use Windows - cause it sucks! Earlier I used to dual boot (means I had two Operating Systems on my PC. Windows and Linux. I could use any. Linux configures this for you automatically), now I completely use Ubuntu and I swear by it.

Where to get started? You can order free Ubuntu CDs from shipit.ubuntu.com, you can download Knoppix from here www.knoppix.org, openSUSE from en.opensuse.org/Download. If you study in a college or institution, you can request them to give a Linux CD. Use it once and you will feel the difference. And Linux users are distinct from the crowd - so as soon as you start using Linux, call yourself a geek!

The Arabic channel does telecast something other than some stupid dance videos, violent movies and anti-American crap. Last night the channel featured Osama's new terror plans for the sweet World on prime time. For those of you who really missed it, here's a synopsis.

++ Move over Bush, Himesh is right on top!

The Afghans seem to hate Himesh Reshammiya more than us. Osama has invented a plan to capture the legendary singer from the Tihar Jail where he is currently serving his death penalty for certain obvious reasons. He'll be taken to the Iraq borer where he'll tackle American resistance to the Afghans with his nasal torturing voice levels. There's no hope for the Americans.

++ Hijack more planes but with Indian air-hostesses!

Osama has a soft corner for girls. The number of wives he's had proves it for sure. So when it comes to hijacking planes he's not risking his Jehadis for American blondes. He'll prefer smart, beautiful and cute looking air-hostesses. Indian (earlier Indian Airlines) is a strict no-no. He might prefer Kingfisher though. So if nothing works at least they'll run away with those hot chicks!

++ Nukes are expensive, Chinese diwali crackers are in!

Getting nukes is easier. Maintaining and building up the whole thing costs a bomb. Osama is especially saving for the latest Apple iPod. So real is out and fakes are in. Chinese are smuggling diwali crackers to Afghanistan through the Indian Ocean. (They could take the shorter route but they’re Chinese!).

More from Al-Jazeera, soon! Tune in!

It has always been. You can spend ages discussing the pros and cons of love and arranged marriages. Love marriage has it’s own several advantages over arranged and love marriages is more preferred amongst guys and girls today. Arranged marriage scores when you’ve spent all your youth studying, being mamma’s son, following dad’s business chases or just been unlucky finding the perfect match. Whatever be the excuse we tend to justify anything as per our own taste. It’s a fluid concept.

So here’s your chance. Single, married, marrying or whatever be your status feel free to speak your heart out. Your opinion counts. Your opinion matters. Let’s see what everyone feels about the topic.
