Happy Birthday—– INDIA !!!

Posted by: Divya

India 59th independence dayFreedom—so, so, so many meanings. Over-hyped or under-rated, this word is the basis of Indian history. India turns 60 this year and I say so because I believe that you are born when you are free. Surpass those “as a result of freedom” developmental and political terms and come to define freedom. Trust me, you wont be able to convince yourself easily.

I tried and ended up confused.

So is freedom about giving voice to your opinions or is it about expressing your emotions? If the case is so—then our society will end up in chaos. And where did the freedom go, I don’t know. Is it about going on a vacation whenever you want or sleeping till 10 in the morning—oh! Come over it— you selfish folks. Is it about economic independence or inner confidence—Gosh! Big terms, not for me! Is it about having your own space or living your dreams—hey! Why are you asking me?

Raksha Bandhan festival

Posted by: Harry

Raksha Bandhan is primarily a North Indian festival kindling the deepest emotions of love and affection amongst the siblings. The sister ties the rakhi on the brother’s wrist and both pray for each others’ well being followed by a pledge from the brother to take care of his sister under all circumstances. The brother then usually gifts something to the sister to mark the occasion. Celebrated enveloped in the festivities. The mirth that surrounds the festival is unsurpassed. Amidst the merriment the rituals are also followed with great devotion.

Raksha Bandhan festival gifts brother sister jewelry toys cards rakhis sweets moneyRaksha Bandhan or Rakhi is one festival I feel is truly sweet! For one it glorifies the sister-brother relationship and another the simplistic nature of the festival is something worth appreciating. I’ve always admired a brother-sister relationship in more than many ways. I’ve certainly been missing a sister who would argue with me, fight with me over the remote control, tease me over things, introduce me to her cute friends, help me understand the opposite sex, chat with me endlessly over any topic (This is what they’re best at! I mean all the girls!) and of course tie a rakhi around my wrist each year, eagerly trying to find out what I’ll gift her….!

I have cousins and they do send me the usual postal Rakhis which I appreciate very much but somewhere inside I do miss the real feeling of enjoying the festival. Brothers-sisters might have petty fights throughout the year but it’s this one day when everything settles down to simply love amongst the both! So if you’re a lucky brother or a sister, go ahead and enjoy the another of the great Indian festivals!

PS: If you’re a girl and you’re reading this then don’t feel bad for me and don’t think about anything. I’ve already received six e-rakhis on e-mail and I can’t afford to make more sisters in this male populated country!

Highschool sweethearts!

Posted by: Deepak

love smooch dating romance gifts chocolates girls school crush passionThe day I first walked past the high school corridors I smelled fresh meat, hanky panky perfumes, sweaty armpits, short skirts made even shorter. I indeed have a great smelling sense. Anyways, high school is not a cakewalk. It’s sheer hard work with hours and hours of studies with full concentration. I did give up this belief within two weeks at high school.

With two years already into the better part of school life I have finally started enjoying the daily classes. A normal day at school includes the usual student-teacher arguments on how important homework is, the never ending debate amongst class mates on who’se the hottest chick in the class and ofcourse basketball. Homework certainly took a back seat since seventh grade. We now have better things to look after.

Super Friendship Day Guide

Posted by: Priya

Friendship Day Send gifts dating friends love cake flowers bands greetings cardsIt’s official. August 6 is International Friendship Day. It’s a day when people waste precious hours of the day fooling around chasing the opposite sex and sometimes the same with inexpensive flowers, gifts, toys, chocolates, jewelry and all sorts of impressive give-away! It’s a day when people loosen their wallets and hope for that special someone would realize the virtue of their true friendship and they shall remain true friends forever!

Cut the crap and it’s a day of useless chasing, gifting, impressing and hoping for miracles. The same people forget the color of the flowers you bought for them the very next week. The same people stare at you the very next year as if you were an alien from Mars. The same people somehow forget the amount you spent on them on this very day. In all the day is the next worst to first days at college. Nevertheless here’s a super guide on what to gift this friendship day!

Ragging Ragging hai rabba!

Indian Colleges Classrooms Girls Fashion Guys dating chairs petrol ragging banned Munching chips and sipping cola during months of vacations after the board exams I seriously had no idea about how college would feel like. I’ve always had a very rough idea about college from the early days of growing up. Watching the young likes of Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar and Sunil Shetty flirt with innocent classroom babes and poke fun at the professors, I thought college would be more of a dream. A place where you could walk freely, wear anything, flirt, enjoy spicy samosas and colas, shout out loud, misbehave in the class, get away with pranks and hang out with friends.

Honestly speaking, that was a total fantasy. One week into college I feel like I’ve been tied up to this ugly uncomfortable chair with nails coming out from everywhere hurting my innocent hips. The lecturers never arrive on time and the blackboard is always too messed up to be upto the ‘readable’ mark. The fifty minutes of each lecture sound like someone standing in on a small platform talking French to a class of sixty, all of them have no idea of what the freak of nature is shouting about and still keep nodding our heads in vain.
